The latest trend on TikTok got you confused, like me?

The “devious licks” trend got everyone confused and rethinking what today’s youth are doing on TikTok. I think many of us were thinking that children, youth, and other people on TikTok were in school licking various things, which during this pandemic is not only gross but extremely alarming. However, we were wrong. The people thinking “Devious Licks” are about licking various things.

This trend is even more disturbing as in these TikTok videos, teens go to their school and steal various things.

Yes, you are reading it right… TikTokers make videos of themselves stealing school things!

TikTok reported to Insider on Wednesday how they are working on removing, blocking, and redirecting hashtags, content, and searchers for “devious lick.” This trend arose and became popular within a few days. It got reported many students would steal anything they could get hold of from microscopes, projectors, paper towels to plastic spoons, and so on from their school. TikTok stated that this trend violated the guideline of their community.

In a statement to Insider, the TikTok spokesperson said:

“We expect our community to stay safe and create responsibly, and we do not allow content that promotes or enables criminal activities.”

The company stated it is working its way on blocking such content to discourage others from doing the same act, but there were thousands of devious links uploaded during that time already.

The definition of “lick” according to Urban Dictionary, is:

“A successful type of theft, which results in an acceptable, impressive and rewarding payday for the protagonist.”

To be honest, I am still confused as to what reword or payment these kids can get by stealing white spoons or paper towels, and takes no time to break.

However, maybe I am just not that advanced to understand the whole trend and why it got so popular.

How this trend came to being, no one knows. Nonetheless, this “devious lick” trend made teens into small-time criminals. The trend got made with the sound, “if I accept your valid,” and based on this, the number of videos last time that we checked was more than 122,000 videos.

River Ridge High School’s principal in Florida posted on Facebook, telling parents to discuss the trend with the students and tell them how wrong it is as they are breaking not only the school rules but also the law.

Zetzsche stated:

“We will investigate every single video, we will monitor and use social media footage to catch the students responsible and we will ask for law enforcement intervention in every situation while also providing school discipline at the maximum level allowed.”
