A cashback on WhatsApp Payments? The feature currently appears to be in beta.
WhatsApp payments may soon give rewards to users.
Instant messaging platforms today do more than just allow their users to communicate with loved ones. Some go much further and are used on a daily basis for very mundane tasks, including making purchases. WhatsApp could capitalize on this and soon offer cashback on payments made through the platform.
A cashback on WhatsApp Payments?
In China, WeChat has become a must-have app, far beyond its instant messaging features. It is a platform for companies and individuals who want to do business, allowing users to send money to each other, play games, and much more. For this reason, it’s not much of a surprise to learn that WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, would like to offer similar features.
The company launched its WhatsApp Payments in 2020 and today, in an attempt to attract more users to this option, the platform may be preparing to offer cashback to those who use its services. . At least that’s what a report from WABetaInfo announces which uncovered references to this potential future feature.
The feature currently appears in beta
It appears that once a WhatsApp Payment is made, the cashback is transferred to the user within 48 hours. Since this feature currently appears to be in beta, we don’t know much about it. In addition, as WABetaInfo points out, it seems limited to UPI Payments for the moment. It is difficult to know if other platforms will be eligible in the long term or if this is just a simple first test with UPI Payments.
It should also be remembered that, for the time being, WhatsApp Payments are reserved for India and Brazil. It is not known whether the company intends to extend its service to other countries of the world. The mobile payment market is already very well established in most developed countries. It should be tricky to succeed in winning it, even with a cashback.
